The first week of the project consisted of the group meeting each other, meeting our supervisor at Imperial, and our supervisor at IBM. The group first gathered to discuss ideas for the project and how to move forward, as well as making initial teams for the different parts of the project that were anticipated.

Later this week we had our first meeting with John McNamara, our supervisor from IBM and also the one who made the provided the project. We discussed with John his vision for the finished product from what he was looking at having incorporated and how the coffee machine would ideally function by the end of the project. After gaining a better idea of what John was looking for we agreed to go to the IBM headquarters in Hursley to pick up the coffee machine and some other hardware in order to start the project.

After our meeting with John, we met with our Imperial supervisor, Dr. Christos Papavassilou. We discussed the information gathered from John and also discussed our ideas about the project. Dr. Papavassilou provided some suggestions and possible ways of accomplishing the improvements we were looking to do. Overall the feeling in the group was a positive one and this was encouraged by both supervisors encouragement and suggestions.

To end the week, 3 of the group members travelled to the headquarters in Hursley and enjoyed a tour of the facility, and further discussed possible additions to the coffee machine with John. After a week of planning and discussing different possibilities for the project, the group finally had the coffee machine and could start working on making it a 'SMART' coffee machine.
